Carry Jesus

While He yet talked to the people, behold, His mother and His brethren stood without, desiring to speak with Him. - Mathew 12:46

Half a year has passed by so quickly and you might have small talks now and then, if not lots about Christmas and planning your holidays within your family or in your churches. To some of you it might seem a long time ahead from now as we have four more months to go for Christmas. But today, we are going to think about a woman who was one among the very few on earth awaiting the first Christmas ever. Yes, it is Mary, the mother of the Lord Jesus. Imagine her situation two thousand years ago, with the Christ in her womb and counting down months to give birth to the One who made her. I do not know if she was anxious or worried or excited, but she would have been waiting to see this little face that is sleeping within her – her Firstborn Son. Any mother would imagine lots as how she is going to spend time with her baby, kiss him and love him more than herself. Mary was no exemption to this motherly love. She must have awaited Christmas more than anyone else in the world, ever! El-Roi “The God who sees” is now with closed eyes in her womb; El-Shaddai “The Almighty God” is now with little fingers and small toes! The God who calls stars by name, now had to wait some months to learn His own name. Mary must have thought about all this and pondered in her heart.

Then came the greatest day of all. “To us a Saviour is born”. There were angels praising and shepherds coming to meet the new born King! The entire atmosphere filled with joy! But as hours passed by, the angels went back to heaven and the Shepherds had to return back to their pastures.  Now, it was just Mary, Joseph and in their arms was the little beautiful Jesus. Well, now it was their task to keep Him happy. Babies cry a lot, Jesus should have also cried. Joseph and Mary had to do all sorts of funny noises and funny faces to make Jesus smile and sometimes Jesus would laugh a little loud. Jesus was two years old now, He could say a few words and to try and walk without falling was a great thing for Him. Young Mary was taking care of God Almighty. She must have kissed him every day, said bed time stories, took Him in her arms and hugged Him so tight and fed Him food and every other thing a mother does for her child. She ‘carried’ Him! And ‘cared’ for Him! How long did she do this? Until He was twelve years old? ‘No’. We see in Mathew 12:46 now even after He was thirty and more devoted Himself to serve the people, she came along with her children to see how He was. May be, Jesus did not turn home for a long time now, days or weeks because He was so moved with compassion for the people, that He could not leave them. Mary and Jesus’ brothers and sisters might have come there to see if He was doing well and if He had good food and to make sure that He is just fine.

Mary cared for Jesus. People wish to do this even today. I have seen people caring for the heart of God, making sure their life style does not break His heart in any way. Though now you need not feed Him or look after Him, you still can do one thing which Mary did. Care for Him by making sure His heart is not grieving. We know from the Bible that God can be grieved by our actions and behaviour. Let’s try and think, hereafter, to love Him in this possible way too. Paul says, “Do not grieve the Holy Spirit!” Let us not grieve God but make Him happy. It would be wonderful and you will still be a saint if you choose to be a shepherd or an angel who obeyed the voice of God and worshiped Jesus and stop there or choose to deepen your relationship with Him not only by just worshiping Him as God but also continue to care for Him in the days to come.

Prayer

Dear Lord Jesus

I come to your feet asking this grace upon me to care for You, having thoughts on not breaking your heart through my actions  in any way. Please Lord; grant me this grace  and help me to lead a life loving you, my God and my King.

Amen.
