Youth Message

Trust and Obey

Dear friend, Greetings to you in the incomparable name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Being brought up in the knowledge of God, having a disciplined life, regular in going to church, leading an honest life in the society, longing to know more of God, reminds me of an interesting personality in the Bible- yes, the rich young man who seems to had come to Jesus with enthusiasm but did not go back with the same, he went away worried because the rich young man could not do what Jesus asked him to do. It was hard for him to obey.

Saying no to unwanted friendship or habits that lead to addiction is of course beautiful but is that all is required of me from our creator is the question you and I should ask ourselves. Here, I would like to turn your focus to another man who when knew what God required of him, was determined in fulfilling it without delay. Abraham was a man who not only followed God’s heart but also showed implicit obedience in following God’s heart. First thing that challenges me about Abraham is, his response in accepting to leave his own people and his father’s household who loved him, took care of him, stood beside him in his good and bad.

Genesis 12:4 says So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.
This wouldn’t have been easy. The second thing is when God tested him, asking him to sacrifice his one and only long awaited son. This wouldn’t have been easy either.

Genesis 22:3 says, So Abraham rose early in the morning, saddled his donkey, and took two of his young men with him, and his son Isaac. And he cut the wood for the burnt offering and arose and went to the place of which God had told him.

In both the scenarios, Bible never speaks about Abraham questioning God or asking for an alternate plan or having an argument with GOD. All that he did was to obey when he knew what actually God needed of him. Abraham’s obedience was the same before he received the blessings and after he received the blessings. His obedience was not biased upon the blessings he received from God. But God is faithful and so He did fulfill his promise in Abraham’s life and he blessed him. Above all God addressed himself to Moses and the Israelites as ‘The God of Abraham’. Oh what a blessing !! (Exodus 3:6, Hebrew 11:16). Jesus, God the Son Himself showed obedience to the point of death, even death on the cross -Phillipians 2:8.

So dear brothers and sisters may we also decide to be like Abraham obeying God how hard it might seem. For God says “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Let’s trust and obey.

Prayer: Dear God, I thank you for all the desires that you have upon my life, Help me to know them and give me the determination and the obedience to fulfill them. Grant me the obedience that was in Christ, that was in Abraham. In Jesus precious name I ask. Amen
