The power of Love

A survey was conducted, which asked women, whom they loved more, Their husband or their children. The result showed that 75% of women loved their children more than their husbands.  One woman responded, “They are a part of me, You don’t know what I went through to give them life.” Another woman responded, “I always tell my husband I will take a bullet for my kids, but not for him.”

We see this words in the back cover of Dr Brenda Hunter’s Book, the power of Mother love. “Mother's love shapes cultures and individuals. While most mothers know that their love and emotional availability are vital to their children's well-being, many of us do not understand the profound and long-lasting impact we have in developing our young children's brains, teaching them first lessons of love, shaping their consciences …” The famous author Agatha Christie wrote, “A mother's love for her child is like nothing else in the world. It knows no law, no pity. It dares all things and crushes down remorselessly all that stands in its path.”

When such a noble love of mother is presented to most of us, God presents us with a still more beautiful love. We see in Isaiah chapter 49, the Wise Spirit speaks through the prophet, “Shout for Joy, you heavens, rejoice, you earth…For the lord comforts his people…But Zion said, “The Lord has forgotten me.”” To which God responds, “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you”

I read this beautiful words on a webpage, “Motherhood is a unique relationship that involves total commitment. It is a twenty-four-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week job that begins the moment your child is born and doesn't end until the day you leave this world. It doesn't cease when you go to sleep. You don't really get breaks, unless you have child care or help from a family member. The responsibility doesn't stop when your child has her own home or her own family. Wherever you are, whatever you do, a small part of you is always aware that there is another being on this planet who is under your care and whose well-being affects you as much as your own does.”

Now picture this same paragraph with God, for the one, who delivered Israelites out of Egypt, it is a 24/7 responsibility to have us under His care, and who takes it as His personal responsibility on our well being. No wonder, He says, "He who keeps Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.”

Another author Liza Oz writes on How it feels to be a mother, “…you feel like your heart is walking outside your body. Having a baby is the most terrifying thing you will ever do. Nothing makes you more vulnerable than having a child” Ironically, Jesus didn’t just feel, He underwent the motions of having His flesh pierced and became vulnerable like a lamb led to slaughter. Vulnerable in its cruellest sense, the one who could command the waves to stop and walk on water endured the harshest of the lashes that His appearance was so disfigured that He did not look like any man, and His form did not resemble a human being…

Dear sisters in Christ, You who are endowed with the noble aspect of bringing a child to this world or have already brought forth a child in this world, consider the love you showered on your child. It would pale in comparison to the love that God showers on you. It is an inherent attribute of God to love us like a mother. We disobey our earthly parents, for a short while they are angry at us. Then they bring us back to them with tender love.

I want to end this article with an incident that happened at Orissa in the year 1999 January. An Australian missionary to India, Graham Staines was burnt alive along with his two sons Philp and Timothy, aged 9 and 7. Despite this heart rending incident, Gladys Staines, Graham Staines' wife, uttered these remarkable and bold words “In forgiveness, there is no bitterness and when there is no bitterness, there is hope. This consolation comes from Jesus Christ.”

It takes real strength to appeal for clemency for the guys who torched her husband to children to death. But she did.

..And someone else did too, “Father, forgive them, for they know not, what they do”. Them, did not only refer to the Jews and the Romans who crucified Him on the cross, it refers to us who walked away and trampled His love.

All is forgiven. No sins are imputed. The forgiveness of God knows no limits. His love is indescribable. You belong to God.

May God bless you.
