“and when Abram was 90 years old and nine, the LORD (Jehovah) appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am a the Almighty God (El Shaddai); walk before me, and be perfect. And I will make my covenant between me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly.” Genesis 17 :1,2

Dears in Christ,

Our God reveals himself through many names throughout the bible. One of the first names mentioned is El-Shaddai. Meaning, God Almighty.

Abraham, 90 years old, with no child to continue his legacy is met by God who says that He is God almighty. Here in Genesis 17:1, God asks Abraham to do two things.

1. Walk before me
2. Be perfect.

Walking before God means let all that you do be done with the awareness you are doing it for God.

A good example would be Adam and Eve’s concealment before God when they realize they have not walked how God wanted them to.

Many a time we hide from God. By shutting him out of our thoughts and actions. We behave as if we have nothing to do with him. Because we know that deep inside we are not ok with God.  Our ways are not perfect. It is possible to go to church, pray and read bible but still hide before God. Dears, if you are hiding from God in your thoughts, or have held back something which you know that you need to submit to God please do it. El-Shaddai will help you. God never asks us to do something for which he doesn't give us the power to accomplish. If He asks us to walk before him then he will give us the power to walk before him. That is the power of God Almighty. Adam being reunited with God.

Being Perfect

Many times when we demand perfection from ourselves, we judge perfection with human standards. We try to live with the highest bar set in our minds. But when God demands perfection from us, he is not asking for perfection from our standards. The foolishness of God is wiser than the wisdom of man. He asks perfection from His standards, on his terms!

Unless we accept the death and resurrection of Christ as an action that is more personal and meaningful to us than anything else, we can never be perfect.

2 Corinthians 5 : 14, 15 gives us the path to perfection

For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.

I want to conclude with 2 thoughts.

Are my ways open before God? Have we been crucified with Christ?

Call upon El-Shaddai. He is all sufficient.
