GOD has created many millions of living creatures on earth. Among the many living creatures, there are wild animals, pet animals, reptiles and creatures that live in the sea. These animals live in groups or in flocks or in herds. GOD created all these animals by the words of His mouth. GOD made these animals subject to man’s authority so they could be useful in serving mankind.

But the purpose of man’s creation is different.

GOD desired that man would live with Him forever to serve GOD, to obey Him and worship Him. GOD desires the same thing even today. GOD desires that all the generations of mankind should live with Him forever. That is why, even though GOD is all powerful to create any living thing just by the Word of His mouth, He created Adam with His own hands just like a potter creates a pot he desires with earnest care with his own hands. GOD then breathed into Adam the breadth of life and Adam became a living soul.

GOD took a bone from the rib of Adam and made a woman and she was called Eve. The two were united as husband and wife and they became a family. The above story can be found in Genesis 2:7, 8, 18, 22-24. Only in the human race where a man and a woman come in union, there are relationships like a husband, wife, brothers, sisters, uncle, etc… The relationship with GOD who gave us all these relationships is the most important. Such families who experience GOD’s relationship and believe and worship Him with all their heart, will never be lacking in anything.

So, how does the opinion that a ‘woman’s help is necessary for a man’s completeness be true?

In Genesis 1:28, “…Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it...” we see that it is GOD’s desire that man multiply and fill the earth and worship him from one generation to the other. For a man to have children he needs the help of a woman. No man can have his own children without the help of a woman. This is an important reason for a man and a woman to be united to become a family.

What is the role and speciality of a woman in a family? We know from 1 Corinth 11:3-9; Eph 5:22- the relationship between a man and a woman is compared with the relationship between a CHRIST and the Church. Like in the Church where CHRIST is the head and Church the body, the man is the head and the woman is described as the body in a family. Firstly, man was not made from woman, but woman was made from man. Man was not created for woman but the woman was made for man. The order of a family is shown in the above verses that the body of a family which is the woman should obey the man who is the head of the family just like the Church being the body obeys CHRIST the head. However, in a relationship between a man and woman where the man is the head, it’s the woman who is praised when it comes to a Family’s responsibility.

Reading Prov 31:10-12, we know that a woman is praised not just by her immediate family but the coming generations will also call her blessed. In Prov 12:4; Prov 19:14, a virtuous woman is praised as the crown of a man. Just like any king who will have lost his kingship without a crown, so is a man who has not found a virtuous woman. The riches the LORD gives a man is his wife.

In Thirukural, a literature in tamil, we read, that if a man finds a woman with virtuous and good character suitable for family life, that man lacks nothing but if a man does not find a woman with good character suitable for family life then all that he has is nothing.

We also read in Proverbs 19:14, “House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent (sensible) wife is from the Lord.”

To the LORD who has created woman for man’s completeness, to Him be glory.
